Principal’s Message

Welcome to Girraween Primary, I am proud of our school and we strive for continuous improvement in all areas. We have a strong values culture which is embedded in our Seeds of Success which are personal best, respect, responsibility, fairness and care. Our students are active, curious and engaged. At Girraween every student is special and we aim to cater for the needs of all with extension and intervention programs running in parallel to effective classroom programs. We take our responsibility as global citizens seriously and every class takes on a sustainability project each year as well as our on-going efforts with recycling and our farm work. Our teachers plan inquiry units which give students the opportunity to investigate topics in the areas of Science, History, Geography and Health in depth.

We love reading at Girraween and promote a love of literature at every opportunity, our library is well stocked and we love seeing students curled up with books all around the school. I regularly read to classes and the whole school at assembly which is always popular.

We believe the environment is the extra teacher and have created effective outside learning spaces; this includes our large vegetable garden and farm, our outdoor learning centre and pendopo and our very engaging early childhood space. Our classrooms are well maintained and resourced, every class has an interactive whiteboard and we have class sets of i-pads and laptops for student use. The students use information technology to demonstrate their learning and this provides the opportunity for great extension work. Girraween students participate in Music programs and many are confident performers in the choir,  at our assemblies and red faces event. Our annual dance night sees every student and teacher participating. Students also attend physical education lessons and are given the opportunity to participate in interschool and regional sporting events.

We believe that education is a partnership and encourage parents to be active members of our school community. Our school council are proactive and work tirelessly for the benefit of every child. We have different task groups that parents can join; craft, fundraising, grounds, infrastructure and finance. Our playgroup caters for the youngest members of our community and is organised by parents.

Girraween is a wonderful learning environment for students and teachers and I am very proud to be able to lead such a great school. We hope you enjoy browsing through our website and would be happy to have any feedback, questions or comments directed to us through the contact button.
